Pomelo Care’s Next Chapter

Five years ago, when Pomelo was just an idea and a deck, I spent months meeting with health plans who shared roadblocks they encountered when trying to improve maternity care.

“It’s challenging to identify who is pregnant and high risk early enough to have an impact.”
“It’s really hard to engage patients.”
“Many of our members live over an hour away from an OB and need more immediate access to care."

At the same time, the national maternal and infant health crisis was worsening. More babies were being admitted to NICUs, more communities were losing access to maternity care, and more families were facing preventable complications. It was clear the country needed a new model—one that closed care gaps, delivered real medical care, and held itself accountable to outcomes.

Despite the doubts, in just a few years, we’ve grown Pomelo into the national leader in maternal and infant health, delivering care to women and children across the country and showing what’s possible when care is proactive, tech-enabled, and accountable.

Which brings us to today.

I am incredibly proud to share that Pomelo Care has raised $92 million in Series C funding, valuing the company at $1.7 billion. This milestone marks the next chapter in our mission to raise the standard of care for women and children.
Real Results, at Scale

Since 2021, Pomelo has set a new standard for maternal and infant care, holding ourselves accountable to measurable outcomes. By publishing peer-reviewed, claims-based results at leading national scientific and medical conferences, we’ve shown that a virtual care model can deliver results at scale.

For the patients and families we serve every day, these outcomes are not abstract metrics; they represent fewer preventable emergencies, healthier births, and more time at home together. Across the populations we serve, Pomelo has achieved:

  • 6.8-day reduction in NICU length of stay (16.3 days for complex cases)
  • 37% reduction in preterm births
  • 46% reduction in emergency room utilization
  • 718% higher prenatal depression screening and follow-up rates

These improvements translate directly into better outcomes for families and measurable savings for health plans and employers. Engagement with Pomelo is associated with a 3-5x ROI, thanks to reductions in high-cost events like preterm births, NICU admissions, and ER visits.

None of this happens without the trust patients place in us during some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives, or the partnership of clinicians, health plans, and employers who choose accountability over the status quo.

At the heart of this success is living out one of our company values to the fullest, ‘combining our superpowers’ between technical and clinical teams to build an intelligent care co-pilot for our world-class clinicians. We deliver human care in minutes that is informed by comprehensive clinical insights, while ensuring patients have 24/7 access via phone, text, video, or app to a full multi-specialty team, including nurses, dietitians, therapists, doulas, and medical providers.

We built this platform for the moments when timing matters most: for the pregnant patient who reaches out in the middle of the night because something doesn’t feel right, for families navigating complex pregnancies who need real clinical answers in real time, and for the clinicians working every day to help patients avoid preventable complications and get families home healthier and sooner.

Serving Women and Children Throughout Their Lives

Founded to improve maternal and infant health, Pomelo is now expanding its proven model to deliver care across the full span of women’s and children’s health. With this funding, we will continue to rapidly scale our care model through partnerships with health plans and employers nationwide, applying the same rigor, accountability, and accessibility.

Pomelo now provides care for women and children at every stage of life—from reproductive health and pregnancy through pediatrics, perimenopause, menopause, and long-term health. Our approach combines proven science with personalized care to help people achieve better health outcomes. By providing this proactive care at every stage of life, we think we can set a new national standard for women’s and children’s healthcare.

I am deeply grateful to our partners at Stripes, Andreessen Horowitz, Atomico, Box Group, First Round, Operator Partners, Plus Capital, and SV Angel, for believing in what we’re building. And to the entire Pomelo team: I've been so happy coming to work with the most amazing team every day. This is the team I've always dreamed of working with – through the hard things even more than the fun things (and I know it has not been easy). You all have built this company into what it is today, and I'm so grateful for you. This next chapter is about continuing to show what’s possible when care is built around patients, grounded in science, and held accountable.
